You need to open ports for various online activities to
work. Most of the modems (simple Ethernet cable modems with no wireless) have
all the ports open but that’s not the case if you have got Wi-fi routers. You need to open a particular
port manually for a particular activity. Most popular such activity, for which
port forwarding is required, is for “multiplayer gaming”. There is different
procedures of port forwarding for all the routers (some may have same).
Here is a step by step guide with pictures for Nokia Siemens
routers -
1.
Open any web browser. And open the following
URL. (copy and paste in Address bar)-
http://192.168.1.1/scvrtsrv.cmd?action=view
This is the hidden link required
to access Nokia Siemens port forwarding panel. (This article is about port
forwarding, If you want to access other settings of Nokia Siemens router then
use link- 117.197.9.26)
2.
You may need to put in Admin id and password. By
default its “admin” and “admin”, so just type in “admin” in both, the Id and
password fields and press ENTER.
3.
You will see the NAT—Virtual server page. From
here you can add or remove ports. (Open and close ports)
4.
Nokia Siemens has provided pre-settings for a
big list of services. Search the list, and if you can find the service for
which you want to open port, then just select it. All the fields will be filled
automatically. After that just click “Save/Apply” button. And you are done.
(Server Ip address and Remote ip fields has to be filled manually, that is
explained in next step)
5.
But if you want to add a custom port (If you
didn't found the service you are looking for) then the fields has to be filled
like this-
·
Select the “custom server” Option instead of
“select a server” and give your custom server any name you want. (In the
example screenshot I have used name “TandOstuff” you can use any)
·
Now open Command Prompt (for that, click on
windows start button>open “run”>type in “cmd” and press enter.
·
In command prompt, type “ipconfig” and press
enter.
·
Just note down the “ipv4 address” and “Default
Gateway”
·
Close cmd and come back to NAT—Virtual Servers
page. Just fill the “ipv4 address” in the “server Ip address field”
·
Fill in the ports you want to open. Fill both,
external start point, external end point and internal start point, internal end
point. If you want open a range of port, then fill the start and the end point.
But if you want to open a single port, then type it in both, start and end
point.
·
For example- If you want to open port
28960-28966 (i.e. from 28960 to 28966) then
External port start- 28960
External port end- 28966
Internal port start- 28960
Internal port end- 28966
Or if you just want to open port
“8080” then-
External port start- 8080
External port end- 8080
Internal port start- 8080
Internal port end- 8080
·
In the protocol column, select “UDP/TCP” from
the drop down menu.
·
In remote ip, type in your “Default Gateway”
(Which we have noted from cmd)
·
Click “save/apply” and close the page.
·
Here is an example, showing what should be the
required fields for opening port 8080.
Wola! You are done.
